THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCE
The Academy was founded in 1920 by a small group of celebrated European dancers and has come to represent the very highest standards in the teaching of classical ballet. With over 15,500 members' spread across 82 countries, The Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) is one of the largest and most influential dance education and training organisations in the world.
The Academy works constantly to improve the standards of dance and dance teaching. Teachers in all parts of the world are provided with a wide range of courses designed to help them in every aspect of their work and to ensure that young students who represent the future of dance are taught correctly and at the right speed, and children whose bodies yet unformed are protected from the damage that can result from poor teaching.
Children can start taking exams as young as five years of age and continue if they wish right up to professional level. The academy can also train them to become teachers and in this way they can pass on their years of accumulated dance skills to another generation.
