Sal Hodgson: Director

RAD RTS, M.B.B.O/O.D.T.S Advanced Tap teaching cert.

Sal Hodgson started dancing at the age of eight. During her dance career she has had six years of professional stage experience and has danced both in local musical and dramatic societies in England and Bermuda. Sal choreographed 'Camelot' for the Gilbert and Sullivan society also as a member of the B.M.D.S she choreographed several pantomimes, 'Cabaret' and the 50th Anniversary 'Old time music hall' which she also co-directed. She was the artistic director for Bermuda Civic ballet's 'Don Quixote'.

Mrs. Hodgson was assistant ballet mistress for the National Dance Theatre of Bermuda for several years and is currently on the Board of directors of the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda.Up until their amalgamation with the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda she also held the post of President of the Bermuda Ballet Association.

Jayne Burnet : Teacher ( LRAD, RAD RTS AISTD)

Jayne joined the school in September 1994 having completed a three year teacher training course at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, England. She graduated with a Licentiate in the Art and Teaching of classical ballet and Associate teaching certificates in Modern, National and Ballroom and Latin dance from the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Jayne has had a vast experience of varied dance styles within the U.K. and locally she had danced with both the Bermuda Civic Ballet in 'Sylvia' and 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' and with the BMDS in 'The Old Time Music Hall'

Jayne is a past member of the National Dance Theatre of Bermuda where she served on the dancers activity comitee for several years. She has completed the Pilates Initiation 101 and 201 courses with Contrology! Bermuda Ltd. She is certified by the Physicalmind Institute as a Pilates standing and mat instructor.

Jayne's teaching skills extend to all aspects of dance education including child psychology. Her position at the school as senior ballet teacher includes coaching in repertoire from traditional ballets and training students to a Pre professional level.

 

Sarah Terry: Teacher (CDE)

Sarah was born in England and at the tender age of 3 she started dancing at Bojangles Dance school. At 16 she attended Sutton College where she gained a BTEC National Diploma in dance and performing arts. Then at the age of 18 she started her teaching qualifications at Bojangles and graduated in 2008 with her CDE in modern and tap and FDI in imperial ballet in addition to the studies of the R.A.D syllabi.

sarah taught for 3 years at Bojangles and also a year at Dance Network with instruction in ballet, tap, modern and Jazz. Concurrently she taught at health clubs and private schools. Prior to taking her teaching post at the Somerset school of Dancingin January of 2009 sarah danced proffesionally for a year on stage and in television.

 

Jacqueline Ketting: Teacher BA (Hons) LRAD, RTS, CDE

Jacqueline was born in the Netherlands and moved to Dubai at the age of four where she danced at The Ballet Centre. At sixteen she moved to England to continue her ballet training and later started her teaching qualifications at the Arts Educational school, Tring Park.

In 2004 Jacqueline moved to London and spent three years at the Royal Academy of Dance. In 2007 she graduated from the RAD with a BA (Hons) in dance education and also the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance. During the last 2 years of her study she attended Dennard Theatre Arts in South London where she completed the certificate in dance education teaching qualifications in modern theatre, imperial classical ballet and cecchetti ballet. In September 2007 Jacqueline moved to Cheltenham and joined the dance faculty at Janet Marshall Dance studios as a full time teacher for modern, tap and ballet and completed her dance education qualifications for tap. At the same time she taught classes at two of the main private schools in the area, Dean Close and Cheltenham ladies college.

 

Toni Ferreira : Teacher

Toni Ferreira started training in all disciplines of dance at The Somerset School of Dancing at 14 years of age, older than the accepted age to commence ballet training. She progressed to Elementary level of the Majors syllabus with the British Ballet Organisation and danced for the school in all their productions in addition to appearances on the Nordic Prince and at the Bermudiana Hotel.

Toni is a perfect example of what hard work and dedication can accomplish as she is now a teacher in the Junior department, a position she has held for the past 22 years.

Julia Kempe : Teacher

Julia studied at the London Studio Centre for 3 years graduating with a performing arts diploma and associate teachers in ballet, tap and modern with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

Julia's 5 year performing career involved touring in Cabaret all over the U.K. various acting and commercial assignments with the BBC and ITV. She appeared in several plays the London area including the Mack and Mabel charity gala at the theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Since arriving in Bermuda in 1993 Julia has been actively involved with the local arts scene. She assisted in the B.M.D.S children drama workshop and children's workshops for Two Island productions “Broadway in Bermuda” worked with B.M.D.S and the Jabulani Theatre Company and most recently performed in Ebbtide at City Hall.

Julia continued her work with children when she accepted a position at the Olympic club for 5 years teaching Kids aerobics and fitness for children ages 2-18 years. More recently Julia is studying for her final qualification of Marsha Wenig's “Educating the whole child through yoga”.

Julia's affable personality and joy of young children makes her an ideal teacher for youngsters. Since the September term of 2005 Julia has introduced to the school the new Royal Academy of Dance “Dance to your own tune” children's syllabus for students age 3-5 years.
